Author Guidelines
1. The Journal:
The journal publishes original research of highest technical and scientific standard. The journal also accepts technical reports, industrial reports, economic surveys, cost/benefit analysis on built environmental issues, scholarly reviews and books. The journal covers all aspects of the built environment and publishes in the following subject areas:
Solid Water Management, Geochemistry, Meteorology, Biodiversity and Biometeorology, Building Construction, Marine Resources and Oceanography, Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture and Building Technology, Ecosystem and Applied Ecology, Estate Management, Geographic Information System, Surveying, Geodesy and Geodynamics, Environment and Behaviour, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Cartography, Geology, Geophysics Hydrology/Hydrograph, Waste Water Treatment and Disposals Hazard Monitoring and Pollution, Environmental Impact Assessment, The Visual Arts and Built Environment, Solid Waste Management, Among others.
2. Typescript:
Manuscripts should be typed in a 1.5-line spacing, 12-point size, Times New Roman with a margin of at least 2.5 cm in all sides and on A4 paper. The position of tables, illustrations and computer output should be indicated in the text. Tables and legends for illustrations should be typed in sequence near they are referenced in the manuscript and numbered with Arabic numerals. A short running title of not more than 40 characters (including spaces) should be indicated, if the title is longer than this. The cover page of the paper should show in strict order the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s), their institutional affiliations and present position. All papers should not exceed 25 pages or 10,000 words, including illustrations and references, except where there is special consideration. However, technical notes, industrial reports, and scientific letters to the Editor-in-Chief should not be more than 2000 words altogether.
3. Key Words:
At least five key words (index words) should be provided by the author(s) written below the abstract to assist indexing and information retrieval systems.
4. Illustrations:
All drawings, illustrations and photographs should be very clear and legible. All explanations should be in the legend. Photographs should be reduced to the barest minimum to where their presence is inevitable.
5. Equations:
Whenever possible, mathematical equations should be type-written, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. It is helpful to identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin where they first occur. Please use fractional instead of root signs, and use the solidus (I) in simple fractions.
6. Citation and References:
citations and References should be in line with the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition. To simplify typesetting, citations in text should be given as surname and date of publication in bracket, as for example (Mabogunje, 1980); where there are two authors, give their surnames with date of publication in bracket e.g. (Brown and Smith, 1957), where there are three authors, given the surname of the first, followed by et al and date, as for example (Mba, et al, 2004). All works cited in the body of the manuscript must appear in the references at the end.
7. Copy Right/Off Prints:
Authors submitting manuscripts do so on the understanding that if they are accepted for publication, exclusive copyright in the paper shall be assigned to the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. To this effect the authors shall get an electronic copy of the paper and a hard copy of the journal in which the paper appears. However, the cost of electronic and print versions of the articles to the authors will be reviewed from time to time and will reflect differences in choice of electronic version and/or print version.
8. Contributions to Publication:
All Authors shall be required to pay appropriate publication fees for their papers and after the papers have been accepted. Articles that exceed set limits in terms of file size and pages will attract extra charges as appropriate.
9. Submission of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be written in a clear English Language either in British or American English but not in both, and submitted electronically to the Editor-in-chief via submissions@tbejournal.com.
Each manuscript should be accompanied with an abstract of not more than 250 words at the head of the paper and should be intelligible to the general reader without reference to the main text. Abbreviations should be avoided. All articles are referred and peer-reviewed (each will be a blind review to safeguard the privacy of reviewers).
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission’s compliance with all the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published nor it is before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in comments to the editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect document file format.
- The text is single spaced in two columns except the title, authors name and affiliation and abstract.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instruction in ensuring a blind review have been followed.
